Here, have some Love, it's ok..

I'm not sure how I caught wind of this - probably through a catchy youtube video - but I had meant to checkout Love for a while. It's not every day that something so radical comes along .. emergent multiplayer cooperative gameplay in a persistent procedural world .. design, art and technology all by one guy somewhere in Sweden?

It's pretty hard to describe what the game is about, even after playing a few hours. Watching Eskil's gameplay video is a good starting point. I dropped by on the TeamSpeak a few times, and the folks there kept talking about their monolith getting bombed and the AI digging right under their settlement.. excited yet?

Oh, additional difficulty. I don't run Windows at home .. but I think I'm finally caving in to more widespread Wine usage. Took a bit of tinkering, but I got it working and produced a shiny AppDB entry (thanks Kevlarman for the help).

Unfortunately I'm getting some major motion sickness playing .. I suspect I've become hardwired to id engines .. mouse look and movement in Love has a small but noticeable view roll that's just killing me.

I'm going to give it some time before commenting on the game much, but here are some starting tips:

  • Get on the TeamSpeak when you're playing. Really. You will need it.
  • Examine your status bar (below the world view). Inventory, world coordinates etc.
  • The round part of the horseshoe points to your settlement!
  • Don't expect much hand holding. This is about patient observation. I'm only sightseeing and shooting at random things right now.
